(i.e. \u00a0 Boundary is impermeable to matter.)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Systems where there is no exchange of energy, matter or work across the boundary are called isolated \u00a0 \u00a0systems.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/astan.lk\/al_virtualclassroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/pic323.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8690\" src=\"http:\/\/astan.lk\/al_virtualclassroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/pic323.jpg\" alt=\"pic323\" width=\"330\" height=\"127\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The properties that depend upon the amount of matter are named extensive properties. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Examples- mass, volume, heat capacity<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The properties that are independent of the amount of matter are named intensive properties. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Examples : temperature, pressure, density, viscosity, molar volume, molar heat capacity<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Description of the temperature, pressure and composition of the system is called the state of the system. This information is specific for a particular system.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The properties with specific values for the state in which a system exits are called state functions. These properties do not depend on the history of the system.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The change in a function of state depends only on its initial state and final state. It is independent of the route followed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Volume, temperature, density, refractive index, enthalpy, entropy, etc. are examples for functions of state.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The quantity of heat supplied to a system or given out from a system under the condition of constant pressure is called the enthalpy change (\u2206H). This is a thermodynamic property and a function of state.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The enthalpy change ( \u2206H ) associated with a reaction is given by the difference in enthalpy of the products and reactants<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0394H =\u00a0\u0394H<sub>products<\/sub> &#8211;\u00a0\u0394H<sub>reactants<\/sub><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Enthalpy change associated with a reaction ;
